Korean Prince Helmet
- Joseon Dynasty (1550-1650) According
to the museum records,
this helmet belonged
to a 'Corean Prince
and was taken by
the troops of the
Prince of Hizen
[in the north-eastern
part of present-day
Japan's Saga prefecture,
Kyushu] during the
Taiko Samu's [Shogun
Hideyoshi] expedition
from Japan to Corea
in 1594.' Taiko
was a title conferred
to Hideyoshi, who
launched an invasion
of Korea in 1952
and was repelled
by Admiral Yi Sun-Shin.
Admiral Yi
Sun-Shin invented and
commanded the
Korean Turtle
ships (Kobukson
- world's first
iron plated vessel).
